Pair charged with break and enter

Breaking into a home under construction in Chatham has landed a man and woman in trouble with Chatham-Kent police.

Police were called to the home Cabot Trail around 8 a.m. on Thursday and determined approximately $3,000 worth of tools were stolen.

Officers obtained surveillance video showing two people on bicycles carrying items on their handlebars. The pair allegedly went to a local motel, then took a cab to a residence on Grey Street, leaving a stolen item behind in the cab.

The suspects were identified and arrested around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The 35-year-old man and 37-year-old woman, both from Chatham, were charged with break and enter and being in possession of property obtained by a crime. They were taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with theft

A Chatham man has been charged in connection with a bicycle theft.

Chatham-Kent police said a resident of Andrea Drive in Chatham reported that his mountain bicycle was just stolen around 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The resident was able to give a physical description of the suspect to police, and officers located the man riding the bicycle on Princess Street just before 10 p.m. Thursday.

A 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft and being in possession of property obtained by a crime. He was released pending a future court date.

Man charged with break and enter

Chatham-Kent police made an arrest Thursday evening after finding an insecure door at the rear of a business under construction on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Police said officers were first at the scene at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Officers located a man in the area in possession of tools stolen from the business.

A 61-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with break and enter, and being in possession of property obtained by a crime. He was later released pending a future court date.

Man arrested on outstanding warrant

A report of a suspicious man and woman has landed a local man behind bars.

Police said they received a call around 1 a.m. on Friday about the pair behind a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

An officer located them and learned that the man was wanted for failing to attend court last week.

The 41-year-old Chatham man was arrested and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
