A pilot program to better accommodate public transit users at night will launch on Monday.
Instead of having a nightly bus that follows the fixed daytime routes, CK Transit On-Request will allow riders to put in a trip request. A bus will pick up a rider at their bus stop and drop them off at or as close to their destination, whilst picking up and dropping off other riders.
"This on-demand service model is being adopted by municipalities all across North America," said Ian Clark, transit project manager. "It provides a potential alternative to operating expensive fixed routes during times or areas of Chatham-Kent with lower ridership."
CK Transit On-Request will operate on weekdays in Chatham from 7:15 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.
The pilot program will not affect regular CK Transit operations.
CK Transit partnered with Pantonium to allow riders to request a trip through the On-Demand Transit app, a website, or by calling (519) 436-3233.
On-Request riders who use the app or website will need to set up an account by using an email and with enter the transit code "CK" or "Chatham".
