Woman Charged with Drug Possession

A Windsor woman has been charged with several offences after being pulled over for speeding in Chatham Friday morning.

Police said a white Mercedes was speeding on St. Clair Street on Friday shortly after 4 a.m. and tried to evade the officer by pulling into a parking lot and driving behind the buildings when he tried to stop the vehicle. The woman was arrested for driving while her licence was suspended for unpaid fines and for suspicion of driving while drunk. Police searched her at headquarters and found what was believed to be crack cocaine.

The 56-year-old from Windsor was issued a 3-day license suspension after blowing a warning during her breath sample. She was also charged with driving while under suspension, careless driving, driving a vehicle without a valid permit, and drug possession.

Traffic Enforcement

A total of eight drivers have been given tickets during two traffic enforcement blitzes in Chatham-Kent.

Officers from Chatham-Kent police and the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a joint-forces operation on the 401 corridor Thursday morning and charged four drivers with various offences. Then Thursday night, officers conducted enforcement on McCreary Line near Tupperville and charged four more drivers with speeding.

Stolen Vehicle in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a stolen SUV.

Investigators said a 2005 black Lexus R33 was stolen from a home on Turquoise Court in Chatham sometime overnight on Thursday into Friday. They said the vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates AFSH 009.

Motor Vehicle Crashes

Two drivers have been charged after two separate crashes in Chatham-Kent.

A 21-year-old Chatham man was charged with careless driving after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into two hydro poles on Claymore Line in the former Chatham Township Thursday afternoon. Police did not say if anybody was hurt. Total damage was estimated at $9,000.

Earlier that day, a 63-year-old woman was charged with failing to yield the right of way after a two-vehicle collision on Jane Street near Marlborough Street in Blenheim Thursday morning around 9 a.m. Police said no one was injured. Total damage there was estimated at $5,000.
