Crash in Chatham leads to charge

A 23-year-old Chatham man has been charged with making an unsafe turn in connection with a two-vehicle crash in Chatham that caused an estimated $40,000 in damage.

Police said they received a call about the collision on St. Clair Street near Grand Avenue just before 5 p.m. Monday.

No injuries were reported.

Careless driver from Winnipeg stopped on Hwy. 401

A 25-year-old driver from Winnipeg, Manitoba is facing charges for allegedly speeding on Highway 401.

Provincial police stopped a vehicle around 9:22 p.m. on March 7. The driver is accused of going more than 50 km/ hr over the speed limit along the highway near the Victoria Road exit.

During a roadside breathalyzer test, police said the driver registered as an "alert" which resulted in a three-day driving suspension.

The 25-year-old was also charged with racing a motor vehicle and careless driving. The racing charge comes with an automatic seven-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Tools stolen from Wallaceburg cemetery

Police are investigating a break-in at Riverview Cemetery in Wallaceburg that took place over the weekend.

Officers said sometime between 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 and 7:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, someone forced their way into the maintenance building at the cemetery there and stole various tools with a combined estimated value of $1,500.

Accused shoplifter arrested

A 30-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to steal a set of headphones from Home Hardware on Keil Drive in Chatham.

Police said they responded to that call Monday morning.

The accused was arrested, charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime, and released with conditions and a future court date.

Laptop, headphones, cash targeted during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips to help them solve a daytime break-in on Eberts Line north of Chatham.

Police said someone forced their way into the residence sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday and took off with a black 'Asus' gaming laptop, some headphones, and some cash.

Investigators said the break-in caused an estimated $150 in damage and the stolen items have a combined value of approximately $3,500.

Boat reported stolen in Wallaceburg

Police are working to track down a 14' aluminum Jon boat that was reportedly stolen from a property on Lowe Avenue in Wallaceburg sometime over the past couple of weeks.

Five wanted persons arrested

Chatham-Kent police arrested five people on outstanding warrants on Monday -- two of them turned themselves in.

Officers said a 37-year-old Walpole Island man who was wanted for domestic-related assault turned himself over to police at the Wallaceburg police station Monday morning. A 48-year-old Chatham man who was wanted in connection with a residential break and enter in Chatham last month turned himself in at police headquarters Monday night.

Both of them were later released pending future court dates.

A third person -- a 32-year-old Chatham man -- who was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham and for failing to attend court for a fingerprinting appointment was arrested Monday morning. He was also later released with a future court date.

Police made a fourth arrest on an outstanding warrant after an officer spotted a man on King Street on Monday afternoon who was wanted for failing to comply with his probation order. In that case, another 32-year-old Chatham was arrested and later released pending a future court date.

Chatham-Kent police arrested a fifth person who was wanted on an outstanding warrant after getting a tip Monday night about a suspicious man inside the lobby of a bank on King Street in Chatham. Officers identified the suspect as a 45-year-old man who was wanted for breaching his probation, so they arrested him. He was later released with a future court date.
