Maroons can eliminate Vipers with road win

The Chatham Maroons are heading to LaSalle Wednesday night with a chance to advance to the second round of the GOJHL playoffs.

After dropping Game 1 at the Vollmer Recreation Complex, the Maroons came back to win the next three games -- including a 7-3 victory in Game 3 in LaSalle on Saturday.

That road win over the weekend put an end to a nearly two-year losing skid at the Vollmer and, paired with a home win in Game 4 on Sunday, helped to put the Maroons in a position to knock the Vipers out of the post-season in Game 5.

LaSalle goaltender Sami Molu will be noticeably absent from Wednesday night's game and the remainder of the series, even if it goes to the full seven games. Molu was placed on league suspension for four games as of March 3, 2020 following a review of a vicious slash that took place in Game 3.

Puck drop for Game 5 is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Vollmer Recreation Complex in LaSalle.
