Maroons wrap up regular season with busy weekend

The Chatham Maroons will have anything but an easy ride into the playoffs.

The team will kick off its final weekend of the regular season with a game against the first-place London Nationals Saturday night before heading back to Chatham to face the third-place St. Marys Lincolns for the regular-season finale at Memorial Arena on Sunday.

In some ways, the pressure is off for all of those three teams.

The Maroons can't do any better or any worse than fifth place in the Western Conference -- Chatham's locked into a first-round matchup with the fourth-place LaSalle Vipers. London and St. Marys are also locked into their respective spots going into the postseason.

Despite that, there is still something to play for as teams complete some final tune-ups and try to build some momentum for the first round of the playoffs.

Heading into Saturday's game against London, the Maroons will be looking to quickly put a disappointing road loss to the Leamington Flyers behind them.

Chatham is also looking to avoid the season sweep at the hands of the Nationals, who have won all five of their previous matchups with the Maroons during the season by a combined score of 38-15 during those games.

Puck drop for Saturday's game against the Nationals is set for 7 p.m. at the Western Fair Sports Centre in London.

Sunday's game against the St. Marys Lincolns starts at 7 p.m. at Memorial Arena in Chatham.
