Collision with cyclist leads to charges

A 40-year-old man is facing several charges after hitting a cyclist while allegedly impaired.

The collision happened around 9:30 a.m. Friday in the area of St. Clair Street and Grand Avenue in Chatham.

The driver of a pickup had hit the cyclist and then fled the scene. However, cops located him at his residence a short while later and arrested him.

He was charged with failing to stop, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, over 80 and impaired driving causing bodily harm. He was eventually released from police custody with a future court date.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Man arrested for breach 

A fight between two men has resulted in one of them being charged.

It started when officers responded to a disturbance call in Wallaceburg on Friday afternoon. The woman who called told dispatchers that her current boyfriend and ex-boyfriend were fighting each other.

One of the men, a 32-year-old, was located and arrested for failing to comply with an undertaking and his probation order.

He was taken into police custody and held for a bail hearing.

Multiple thefts in municipality 

Police are investigating several break and enters across Chatham-Kent.

In Chatham, sometime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Friday, unknown suspects kicked in the back door to a Gregory Drive East residence. Approximately $1,500 in jewellry was stolen.

Also in Chatham, sometime within the last few days, unknown suspects forced their way into a residence on McNaughton Avenue East causing $500 in damage to the door. In addition, $1,000 in jewellry was stolen.

On Friday at a residence on Bear Line Road in Dover, an iPad was stolen sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The suspects forced open a rear door to get access.
