CK needs input on Wallaceburg bridge repairs

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent wants you to have your say about repairs to the Base Line Bridge in Wallaceburg.

There is a public meeting on February 19, 2020 at the Wallaceburg Service Centre at 786 Dufferin Ave. from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to explore options and get public feedback on the future of the bridge. The Base Line Bridge will either become a fixed/non-movable structure or continue as a movable structure.

The municipality is in the process of repairing both structural and mechanical elements of the bridge and needs public input before a decision is made on how to proceed with the costly repairs.

“We recognize the importance of the bridge to Wallaceburg and we want to make sure we hear from residents,” said Chris Thibert, Chatham-Kent director of engineering. “I want to emphasize that no decisions have been made. We’re presenting options for residents to consider.”

The contract for the repairs is planned to go to the next Chatham-Kent Council meeting on March 2.

Those who are unable to attend the public meeting can submit comments to the municipality by calling 519-360-1998 or emailing ckinfo@chatham-kent.ca. The public can also attend the municipal council meeting on March 2.
