Maroons forward Lucas Fancy scored midway through the third period and goaltender Bryce Walcarius turned away 36 shots to lead Chatham to a 3-2 win over the visiting LaSalle Vipers Sunday afternoon.

The Maroons scored two late first period goals to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, but the Vipers responded late in the middle frame with two quick goals of their own, roughly one minute apart — LaSalle outshot Chatham 15-5 in the second period.

The Maroons weathered the Vipers attack in the third, surrendering just seven shots, and Fancy’s fourth goal in 11 games with his new team ended up being the game-winner.

The win moves Chatham to within four points of the Vipers for fourth spot in the GOJHL’s Western Conference, along with home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Maroons have eight games remaining on the regular season and host Komoka Thursday night. The Vipers, who have seven games left before the postseason, host St. Marys Wednesday.
