Shoplifting complaint leads police to illegal drugs

Two Thamesville residents are facing theft and drug-related charges after they were pulled over as part of a shoplifting investigation that started in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the Real Canadian Superstore Monday afternoon for a shoplifting complaint, but by the time they arrived, the suspects had already taken off.

An officer on general patrol was able to track down a suspect vehicle and pulled it over on Smoke Line.

A 24-year-old Thamesville woman and a 62-year-old Thamesville man were both arrested during that traffic stop. Police said they also found some methamphetamine and hydromorphone on the accused when they were being arrested.

The accused were both charged with theft and drug possession and then released with a future court date.

The 24-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel at the time of the stop, was also charged with having cannabis accessible to the driver and with driving a vehicle that didn't have insurance or a validated permit.

Impaired driver arrested after pair of collisions

A 28-year-old Chatham man is in trouble with police after allegedly taking off from two crashes that he allegedly caused while he was impaired.

Police said it started with a collision on Grand Avenue in Chatham at around 2 p.m. Monday.

Officers said the driver who was at fault drove away and then crashed into a building before taking off on foot.

He was arrested a short time later, at which time police also believed the man had been driving under the influence of alcohol. The accused was then taken back to police headquarters for breath tests and later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

The man was then released with conditions and a future court date.

Parked vehicles broken into

Chatham-Kent police are asking for tips from the public as they investigate a pair of vehicle break-ins on Victoria Avenue in Chatham.

Officers said the windows were broken sometime between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday, causing about $600 in damage.

A laptop, an orange suitcase, and a tote bag were all reported stolen -- they have a combined estimated value of $1,100.

ATV reported stolen in Harwich Township

Police are also putting a call out for tips as they try to track down a red 2005 Polaris ATV that was reported stolen from a shed on Front Line.

According to police, it's worth approximately $5,000.

Two wanted men arrested

A pair of men who were wanted by Chatham-Kent police have been arrested.

One of them was a 30-year-old man from Barrie -- officers said he was wanted for being in possession of a stolen ATV and turned himself in at police headquarters Monday morning.

Police also caught up with a 55-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for failing to comply with his probation. He was arrested by an officer on general patrol Monday night.

Both of the accused were later released with conditions and a future court date.

Domestic disturbance call leads to arrest

A 43-year-old man is charged with assault and uttering threats after police received a call about a domestic disturbance at a Chatham residence Monday morning.

Police said the Chatham man was arrested, charged, and taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
