Police standoff ends peacefully with arrest

Chatham-Kent police negotiators had their skills put to the test in Chatham Monday afternoon.

Officers said after a couple of hours of talks, they were able to convince a man who was wanted by police to surrender himself at his home.

Police said the man was accused of making threats against the Chatham-Kent Police Service online and initially refused to turn himself over to officers who showed up at his residence.

A 43-year-old Chatham man was charged with uttering threats and mischief and later released from custody pending a future court date.

Crash on Keil Drive leads to charge

A 36-year-old Ridgetown woman is charged with failing to yield the right of way in connection with a two-vehicle crash on Keil Drive in Chatham.

Officers said that took place Monday morning, adding no injuries were reported and the damages were estimated at $5,000.

Fishing equipment reported stolen in Dresden

Chatham-Kent police are trying to track down a Lowrance Fish Finder, 7 Okuma rods, 2 seats and a large tackle box that were all reported stolen from a shed on Park Street in Dresden over the weekend.

Officers said the stolen goods have an estimated combined value of $5,000.

Construction trailer targeted by thieves

Police are also looking for tips from the public as they investigate a break-in at a construction trailer that was parked at the Wallaceburg Arena on Wall Street.

Investigators said someone broke into the trailer sometime over the weekend and took off with about $1,000 worth of various items.

London man arrested during traffic stop

A 42-year-old London man banned from driving and wanted by OPP was arrested during a traffic stop in Chatham Monday night.

Police said an officer on general patrol pulled him over on Lacroix Street, at which point, the man allegedly lied about his identity.

When officers learned who he really was, they arrested him and charged him with obstructing police and driving while prohibited.

He was released from CKPS custody pending a bail hearing and then turned over to OPP for court purposes.

Speeders stopped in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police were busy handing out speeding tickets in Chatham in school zones on Indian Creek Road and McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham Monday morning.

Police said they stopped ten drivers and charged them with speeding.
