Polar Plunge returns to Chatham

A number of Chatham-Kent residents are getting ready to take the plunge into a pool of icy cold water for a good cause.

The third annual Freezin’ for a Reason! Polar Plunge will take place on Saturday, January 18 at the St. Clair College Thames Campus in Chatham.

In 2019, the goal was $20,000, and they raised $41,000.

"This year we set a really aggressive goal, and we're trying to go for it. We've got a goal of $50,000 that we're going to try to raise for Special Olympics," said Constable Jason Herder.

Last year, Chatham-Kent was the third-largest plunge in the province for fundraising. This year, Herder wants the top spot.

"It's $50 to register or you can waive that fee and go out and fundraise $100," said Herder. "You get a link that you can put on your social media pages, all the fundraising can be done online. You can also print off your own pledge sheets, it's really easy to do and you can raise the money really quickly."

There two two plunge times, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Herder is hoping to have 150 or more participants this year.

You can register in-person the day of the event, or to register online in advance, click here.
