Flood watch issued for St. Clair Shoreline and Lighthouse Cove

In the midst of a rainfall warning, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for Lake St. Clair Shoreline and Lighthouse Cove.

Strong winds are expected to hit the Lighthouse Cove area in Lakeshore on Sunday. The winds are expected to pick up and pass 35 km/h early Sunday morning and will continue to be high until dawn. The winds are forecasted to peak at 45 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h early Sunday morning.

Wave action could damage the shoreline protection and cause erosion along the Lake St. Clair shoreline in Lakeshore and Chatham-Kent.

The high waves may cause flooding in the area of Melody Drive, Island Crescent, Canal Street, and Peninsula Street in Lighthouse Cove.

Because of changes in the forecast, Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent is not at any risk for flooding overnight.

People should take extra caution and avoid the shoreline should conditions get rough.
