Drug bust turns up fentanyl, crack cocaine

Two people from Chatham have been arrested after police seized $147,000 worth of fentanyl and other illicit substances during a drug bust.

Chatham-Kent police said officers within the Intelligence Unit searched a hotel in Chatham on Thursday.

Officers seized 367 grams of fentanyl, 371g of crack cocaine valued at $45,000, and 4.5 grams of psilocybin worth $45. A "large amount" of Canadian currency had also been seized, along with digital scales and packaging material.

Some stolen items had also been recovered when officers searched the hotel room. A Dyson vacuum stolen from Best Buy, a Stihl chain saw and cement saw stolen from McGrails Farm Equipment over the weekend were found during the search.

A 36-year-old man and 23-year-old woman have been charged with drug possession, two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking, and three counts of possession of property obtained by a crime.

Police said both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
