Businesses give back to the community for the holiday season
A few charitable organizations are getting a financial boost this holiday season.
Over 20 businesses have come together to contribute $18,000 to Reach Out Chatham-Kent, The Sandwich Guys, and The United Way of Chatham-Kent’s Winter Warmth program.
The initiative started when an email from Maple City Homes Ltd. encouraged suppliers in the area to “Help us Help the Homeless”.
“The fact that we build beautiful, quality homes, makes us particularly sensitive to the reality that there are people living among us who don’t have homes, or food, or warm clothing,” said Trevor Mailloux, general manager and partner of Maple City Homes. “We wanted to pull our extended team together to try to help. My partners and I are really proud of the generous outpouring of support from all of our sub-trades and suppliers.”
A cheque presentation was held on Thursday.
“On any given night approximately 87 people in Chatham-Kent experience homelessness. It’s the generosity of caring businesses and residents, like the folks gathered here today, that powers United Way’s work in the community,” said Steve Pratt, chief executive officer of the United Way CK. “It allows us to tackle together persistent, unignorable issues – like homelessness, hunger, and poverty – that are preventing far too many individuals and families from getting ahead.”
