Hot coffee tosser cuts himself

A Chatham man who allegedly pulled a knife on someone and threw a cup of hot coffee at them is facing charges now.

Police said the incident took place Friday afternoon at St. Joseph's Auditorium in Chatham.

Investigators said the accused allegedly pulled a knife on a man he knows and directed it toward the man while also throwing hot coffee at him.

Officers said when the man with the knife went to put the blade back in his pocket, he accidentally cut himself.

The accused was arrested a short distance away and then taken to the hospital for medical attention.

He was later charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham VIA parking lot targeted by thieves

Chatham-Kent police and local Crime Stoppers are looking for tips from the public after six vehicles parked at the Chatham VIA station had their windows smashed.

Officers said it was first reported Sunday morning, adding that their investigation so far shows that various items were also taken from the vehicles including GPS devices, loose change, and lottery tickets.

Police said later that same evening, officers were called to the same location after more vehicles were broken into.

At this time the police do not have any suspect information, so they are asking for help to identify the persons responsible.

Man who drove into a fence charged with impaired driving

A 20-year-old Walpole Island man is in trouble with the law after a Sunday morning drive took him into a fence.

Officers said someone called it in at around 10 a.m. Sunday on Albert Street in Wallaceburg.

Police said they were able to locate the vehicle and believed the man who was driving was under the influence of alcohol, so they arrested him and took him back to police headquarters for breath tests.

He was later charged with impaired driving and released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham man charged with theft

A 51-year-old Chatham man has been arrested in connection with a shoplifting complaint at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the store Sunday afternoon, adding a suspect was arrested a short distance away.

He was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and later released with a future court date.
