Alleged meat thief leaves behind broken saw

Chatham-Kent police are looking for leads after someone allegedly broke into a garage in Chatham earlier this week and took off with some frozen meat.

Police said the garage, at a residence on Fielder Avenue, was unlocked at the time. Whoever broke in stole three packs of frozen hamburger and two packs of frozen pork chops.

Officers said the suspect also allegedly tried to steal a saw, but it fell and broke, so it was left behind.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Kristen Charron at kristenc@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 extension #8107352.

Prescription meds targeted during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are reminding you to properly dispose of your old or unused medication -- especially after some prescription medication was stolen from a residence on James Street in Ridgetown.

Police said someone broke into the unlocked residence sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday night and took off with some cash along with the medication.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Jayme O’Reilly at jaymeo@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 extension #87006.

Officers are also reminding you if you have any old and unused meds, you can drop those off at any pharmacy for free and they will be safely disposed of. Police said that will also help to prevent the medication from ending up in the wrong hands on the streets.

Suspicious person call ends in arrest

Officers said they found the man and took him into custody for his own safety until he could sober up.

Man pushing bicycle arrested in Chatham

A 57-year-old man who was spotted pushing a bicycle on Prospect Street in Tilbury early Friday morning is in trouble with the law.

Not for pushing the bike, though -- police said the man was allegedly out past his curfew.

Officers said the man was released from custody on November 21 with several conditions, one of which required him to obey a daily curfew of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Police said when they spotted the man pushing the bicycle, it was 3:30 a.m., so he was arrested and charged with breaching his probation. He was also taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police have arrested three people who were all wanted on warrants for a variety of offences both locally and in nearby communities.

In the first case, officers said a 26-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions turned himself in Thursday morning. He was arrested and taken to the courthouse for a bail hearing.

In the second case, officers arrested a 16-year-old youth while they were responding to a family dispute at a residence in Chatham. The youth was allegedly wanted by Sarnia police, so CK police officers arrested the teen and took them to Sarnia for court purposes.

And just to make the trip that much more worth it, while officers were in Sarnia, they arrested a man who was wanted on several outstanding warrants in Chatham-Kent.

A 32-year-old Walpole Island man was taken back to Chatham and set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
