Christmas spirit alive and well in ChathamDecember 2, 2019 5:30am
Downtown Chatham is getting ready to light it up for the Christmas holidays.
Organizer Lisa Lester said the armoury will be the site of the first-ever Christmas market and Disney-style light projection show. She said the market will run from December 16-22 and the armoury will be lit up like a giant candy cane house from December 20-26. The market will feature several artisan vendors selling a variety of products including, crafts and clothing. Food and drink will be available along with a licensed bar that sells a special holiday cocktail.
Lester said the historic armoury will turn into a magical Christmas scene for all to enjoy this year and future years.
“We are ready because we find so many years go by and people go out of town for Christmas activities and we’re just excited that there’s going to be some amazing things happening in Chatham-Kent this year,” Lester said.
Lester said the light display will tell a story with moving lights, lasers and music.
“I’m just looking forward to creating this magical event that gives everyone that special Christmas feeling. I hope all the families can enjoy themselves and get that magical Christmas feeling,” she added.
Lester said there will be an adult after-hours party late Saturday night. Tickets are $20 and proceeds will benefit The Children’s Treatment Centre.
“It’s going to be the best holiday party in town, oh and the Southwind Buoys will be playing. They’ve actually donated their talents that night so we can raise more money for The Children’s Treatment Centre,” said Lester.
The event kick-off coincides with The Community Living Christmas Tree Lighting in Tecumseh Park on December 16th at 5:30 p.m. with Christmas carollers singing into the night.
Lester said there will also be live Santa shows December 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. in Tecumseh Park.
Children can enjoy a Secret Santa Shoppe where they’ll be able to make a gift for their loved ones.
Local schools, musicians and organizations will be performing on stage.
Admission is free December 16-19 but tickets are $5 on December 20 and $10 on December 21 and 22. Donations are encouraged and all proceeds benefit Community Living, Hope Haven Mission, Chatham Conductive Ed, and Children’s Treatment Centre.
The market is open from 5-9 p.m. on December 16-20 and 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on December 21 and 22. The 3-D projection light display will run from December 20-26 from 5-10 p.m.
