Maple City employees ratify new agreement

Unionized employees at a retirement home in Chatham have unanimously ratified a new collective agreement, which includes a wage increase.

Employees at Maple City Retirement Residence are members of the Southwestern Ontario Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 303, and have been since 1983.

The union announced the agreement's ratification on Friday. The deal will span over the next three years and includes a six per cent wage increase over that term, along with improvements to health benefits, pension contributions, the weekend premium, and starting wage rates.

“This is a great contract for our members,” said CLAC representative Ryan Griffioen. “The union’s bargaining committee did an excellent job bringing forward their fellow members’ priorities in negotiations and reaching a fair settlement with their employer.”

Other details outlined in the ratified agreement include "a uniform allowance as well as improvements to contract language."

Maple City Residence is owned by Comfort of Living and runs as a 52-bed assisted living facility.
