Puppy hailed as hero for saving kittens

A puppy that saved a litter of kittens from dying in the freezing cold in Chatham-Kent this month is getting a lot of love and attention.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue posted the story on its Facebook page detailing how a Good Samaritan noticed the stray animals on the side of the road, stopped and took them to the shelter.

The staff at Pet and Wildlife Rescue have named the caring pup Serenity. Myriam Armstrong, the shelter's operations manager, said Serenity will be up for adoption once she gets spayed December 3.

The shelter stated that the five kittens have been taken in by a foster family and will be put up for adoption once they're old enough to be on their own.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue said Serenity's story has been shared as far as Nova Scotia, Australia, and Texas. Serenity's heroic and unselfish act has also been covered by some major media outlets, including People Magazine.

The dog is around two years old, loves playing, and has a lot of energy. The staff is training Serenity to be less jumpy and to have better house training.

It's unclear where the animals came from, whether they were abandoned together, or if Serenity just found the kittens around November 16 and decided to save them from freezing to death by cuddling up next to them.

Armstrong and Serenity will visit the CKSY morning show on Tuesday.
