Power tools targeted during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are trying to track down approximately $20,000 worth of power tools that were stolen from a shed during a break-in in Merlin.

Officers said they were called to the property in the area of Sloan Road at around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Break-in at Unifor building in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are also investigating a break-in at the Unifor Union building in the area of 200 Riverview Drive in Chatham.

Police said their investigation shows that at approximately 3:52 a.m. Thursday, someone broke into the building and took off with about $2,000 worth of electronics.

Anyone with information on either of the above-listed crimes can also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Only call 911 for emergencies

Chatham-Kent police are reminding you to only dial 911 if you have a life-threatening emergency or you are reporting a crime in progress.

Police issued that reminder after receiving 11 false 911 calls in a 24 hour period from Thursday morning to Friday morning.

Officers are reminding you that for all other non-emergency incidents, you should contact the dispatch centre at 519 352 1234. You can also speak with an officer regarding a general inquiry by calling 519-436-6600 extension #222.

If you accidentally dial 911, though, you're being reminded to stay on the line -- don't hang up.
