Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week

Police are asking for your help to track down a red Schwinn 26” three-wheel bicycle that was stolen from outside of the Tim Hortons on Lacroix Street in Chatham.

Officers said it was parked -- and locked up -- behind the restaurant at 9 p.m. on Saturday, November 9. Police said the owner returned a short time later and discovered that someone had stolen the bike, which is valued at approximately $500.

Running a red light leads to crash

Chatham-Kent police have charged a driver with disobeying a red light after a three-vehicle crash in Wallaceburg at around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police said emergency crews were called to the intersection of Reaume Avenue near Murray Street, but no injuries were reported. The total damage was estimated at $30,000.

Trio of collisions prompts wildlife warning

Chatham-Kent police are warning drivers to keep an eye out for shining eyes on the road after responding to three separate crashes involving deer Tuesday night.

Police said no injuries were reported as a result of any of those crashes, but officers are reminding drivers that October to January is the peak time for collisions with wildlife, especially during dusk and dawn hours.

Charges laid after a shoplifting complaint

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a 49-year-old Chatham man accused of stealing from Sport Chek in Chatham.

Police said they got the call earlier this month, adding that their investigation showed that a man had taken off with various items of clothing during two separate trips to the store. Officers were able to use video surveillance to identify a suspect.

Police arrested the man Tuesday morning and charged him with two counts of theft and two counts of possession of stolen property. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
