Record snow and record cold

You might want to wear long johns to bed Tuesday night.

Environment Canada predicts that Southwestern Ontario could set a new record low overnight.

"We're looking for lows tonight of -13 C," said Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Peter Kimbell. "The record low for November 13 is -9.9  C in 1986, so we're going to be like three or four degrees below the record. So we're going to smash the record for a low tonight."

Kimbell added that the cold will stick around for a bit.

"The cold is now kind of parked over Ontario, and many areas will see record cold temperatures today and tonight. Unfortunately, the cold is going to stay with us for a little while, and we probably won't get relief from the cold until probably Sunday."

That's not all, on Monday, Windsor set a new record for most snow for November 11.

"We think we got about 19 centimetres of snow in Windsor yesterday," said Kimbell. "That compares with the previous record of 10.4 centimetres set in 1984."

Kimbell said this much snow in November is not normal.

"I don't think anybody in Southern Ontario is used to this much snow in early November. I think everybody is kind of in shock. A lot of people still haven't gotten their leaves raked up yet, and suddenly a huge blanket of snow on top of everything."
