Police find drugs while checking out suspicious man

A 50-year-old man is facing charges after Chatham-Kent police allegedly found him carrying some drugs while he was sitting in a stolen vehicle in Chatham.

Police said they found the man in the vehicle while they were responding to a call about a suspicious man on Peter Street in Chatham at around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers said they learned the vehicle was reported stolen from Wheatley last month and found the methamphetamine on the man when they searched him.

He was charged with possession of stolen property and drug possession and was taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Suspicious activity calls lead police to two more suspects

Chatham-Kent police are giving credit to two other tipsters who helped them track down a couple of alleged criminals.

Police said they arrested a 40-year-old man after getting a call about some suspicious activity around a residence on Queen Street in Wallaceburg at around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

Officers said they learned the homeowners were away and that the man who was inside didn't live there.

The man they arrested was also charged in connection with a suspicious garage fire on Blake Street in September. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

In a separate case, officers arrested a 37-year-old Chatham man after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Murray Street in Chatham at around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said after they found the vehicle, they learned that the man inside was wanted on several outstanding warrants. He was also taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Dryer stolen from home in Wallaceburg

If you saw a man in his 40s walking around in Wallaceburg recently with a red wagon carrying a white dryer, you should give police a call.

Officers said they are appealing to the public for tips after a white Frigidaire dryer was reported stolen from a home for sale on Queen Street in Wallaceburg early Monday morning.

Police said after canvassing the neighbourhood, officers learned that a white man, approximately 40 years old with a skinny build was seen in the backyard of the residence with a red wagon.

Early morning disturbance in Tilbury leads to arrest

A 25-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home in Tilbury and threatening another man in the home while carrying a knife.

Police said they got the call at around 2 a.m. Wednesday, adding that the man accused of breaking into the home also allegedly damaged the door.

The accused was arrested and charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, and two counts of uttering threats.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
