Flood watch issued for Lake Erie shoreline, Erie Shore Drive

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is giving lakeside residents a heads-up about a strong wind warning that has been issued for Lake Erie.

According to the conservation authority, strong southwesterly winds are in the forecast overnight Sunday and throughout the day Monday. Sunday evening and into the night, the strong winds are predicted to rise above 35 km/hr and to remain strong throughout the day Monday. Winds could also reach 50 km/h at times and switch to a southerly direction.

There is a risk of shoreline damage to the Lake Erie shoreline in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County. Some low lying areas could also experience flooding.

Erie Shore Drive south of Chatham is most likely to be impacted.

Residents are being cautioned to pay attention to local conditions and be prepared.

The warning is in effect until Tuesday.
