Gaming facilities bring in over $452K for CK

Chatham-Kent is seeing its first earnings for operations at Cascades Casino in Chatham from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

The second-quarter non-tax gaming revenue payment of $452,642 is shared between Chatham-Kent's former and new casinos. The second-quarter payment is for the time period from July 1 to September 30, Gateway Casinos Dresden officially ceased operations on July 15 and Cascades Casino opened on July 16.

The municipality received its last full payment for operations at Gateway Casino in July for the time period of April 1 and June 30.

“Revenues generated at local gaming sites directly contribute to a better quality of life for Ontarians,” said MPP Rick Nicholls in a statement. “Projects to improve local infrastructure like roads and public transit as well as community programs and services all benefit from OLG’s tremendous partnerships with host municipalities.”

Chatham-Kent has received more than $12.5 million in non-tax gaming revenue since April 2001, according to a release from the OLG.

Revenue payments are made to municipalities for hosting a gaming facility and the amount given is tallied under an equitable formula. In 2018-2019, the Ontario government received $2.47 billion, as OLG provides the province with its largest source of non-tax revenue from Government Business Enterprises.
