Holiday Train coming to Chatham

The CP Holiday Train is set to stop in Chatham-Kent once again this year.

The train carrying Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea and The Beautiful Beautiful Band will be in Chatham on Saturday, November 30 at 2:30 p.m.

"The kids won't be in school so that many more kids are going to be able to get out and see it," said Outreach for Hunger Executive Director Brenda LeClair. "It's going to be coming in over behind the Holiday Inn on Richmond Street as I understand it right now. We'll have more details as we get a little bit closer."

LeClair said Santa Claus will be handing out candy canes, and there will be hot chocolate.

"They open the doors and a band starts to play. They'll play for about 15 minutes and entertain the crowd. Then CP Rail donates to the food bank, they give us a lovely donation."

During last year's event, CP Rail donated $5,000 to Outreach for Hunger.

"The whole idea behind the Holiday Train is they really want to promote and support food banks, and nutritional food," said LeClair. "So we'll be asking everybody that comes out to bring some nutritional food donations to help support the local community."

LeClair added that they usually fill up a large truck with food donations.

No word yet on any plans for shuttle buses, but LeClair said if anyone wants to step up and help set something up, to reach out to her at Outreach for Hunger.
