Two people charged after traffic stop

You can run, but you can't hide from the long arm of the law -- not even a license plate.

A 36-year-old Leamington man is learning that the hard way after a traffic stop in Chatham took a bizarre turn Tuesday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they pulled over a vehicle on Lorne Avenue and Raleigh Street in Chatham at around 10 a.m. Tuesday because the vehicle didn't have an authorized license plate on the front.

Officers said one of the passengers then exited the vehicle and allegedly took off the license plate in an attempt to hide it from police. After that, he allegedly took off running, but police said he was arrested after a short foot chase and a struggle.

The accused was charged with obstructing police and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old Chatham woman, was charged with using improper license plates.
