Man arrested for drunk driving

A call from a concerned citizen is to thank for getting an impaired driver off the road.

Chatham-Kent police said they got the call around 2:45 a.m. about a possible drunk driver on King Street in Chatham.

Officers located the man and believed he was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was placed under arrest.

The man was transported to police headquarters for further breathalyzers which indicated that he had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his body.

The 42-year-old Chatham man has been charged with operation while impaired and 80 plus. He was released from custody with a future court date.

Break and enter in Chatham 

Police are looking for information after a break and enter in Chatham.

They say it happened sometime between Thursday and Saturday when several sheds were entered on a Curran Crescent property.

The unknown suspect removed a Honda motorcycle solo saddle, described as being red and white in colour with the number 1,000 on it, as well as a blue mountain bike.

Two arrests for outstanding warrants 

Police were able to nab two people wanted on outstanding warrants.

Saturday afternoon, an officer on general patrol stopped a vehicle on Lowe Street in Wallaceburg.

At that time the occupant was found to be wanted on several outstanding warrants. As a result, a 25-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested for impaired driving, over 80, and failing to attend court.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Then, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, an officer on general patrol observed a male party on McNaughton Ave in Wallaceburg. At that time the man was found to be wanted on several outstanding warrants.

A 32-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested for theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and failing to attend court.

He was later released from custody with a promise to appear.

Traffic blitz in CK

Chatham-Kent police are reminding drivers to use extra caution this long weekend.

On Saturday, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit conducted enforcement at various locations throughout the municipality as part of Operation Impact – a national public awareness campaign aimed at making Canada's roads safer.

As a result of the enforcement, 56 tickets were handed out to local drivers. Officers will continue to be out in full force during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
