Record month for home sales in Chatham-Kent

Home sales in Chatham-Kent jumped 29.5 per cent in September, the highest sales figures ever recorded for the month.

The Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors says 136 homes sold last month. To date this year, 1,035 units have sold, up 3.8 per cent compared to September of 2018.

The average price of a home sold was also a record, $268,014, up 19.2 per cent over last year. The year-to-date average price is $252,147, rising 19.9 per cent from the first nine months of 2018.

There were also 163 new residential listings, an increase of 14.8 per cent, but overall listings are still stuck at their lowest level on record for September.

"Home sales surged ahead in September to set a new record for the month, which is an impressive feat given how few properties are currently out there for sale," said President Steve Carroll. "The competition between buyers for that limited pool of listings continues to push average prices to new records. With just three months left to go in 2019, the average sale price in the region remains on track for an annual gain of about 20 per cent."
