Allegedly impaired driver charged after crash

A 40-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving-related charge after allegedly crashing into a parked van in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the scene on Taylor Trail shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

Officers believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so they took him back to police headquarters for further testing.

He was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit and then released with conditions and a future court date.

The damages caused by the crash are estimated at $20,000.

ATV and motorcycle reported stolen

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after a Honda 300 ATV and a 2004 black Suzuki motorcycle were both reported stolen from a garage on Green Line near Ridgetown.

They were both taken sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Officers said the motorcycle has reportedly been recovered by Peel Regional Police in Mississauga, but there's no word yet on where the ATV ended up.

The total value of the theft is estimated at $8,500.

Storage units broken into

Police are asking anyone with information on break-ins at five storage units in Chatham to come forward.

Investigators said it happened on Colborne Street at around 3 a.m. Monday, adding that unknown suspects forced their way into the units.

It's not clear yet what -- if anything -- was stolen.

Man charged with domestic violence offences

A Chatham man who was wanted in connection with a domestic violence investigation has turned himself in.

Police said the 62-year-old man attended police headquarters Monday morning and later charged with three counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of uttering threats, and one count of theft.

Officers said he was wanted in connection with a call about a domestic dispute at a residence in Chatham on Friday.

The man was arrested, charged, and taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Pair of family disputes lead to charges

A 36-year-old Chatham woman and a 27-year-old Chatham man are both facing charges after allegedly committing crimes against their family members.

Police said the 36-year-old woman is accused of entering the home of a family member without permission Monday afternoon and allegedly assaulting the homeowner during an argument.

In the other case, the 27-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly threatening a family member during a "disturbance" at a residence in Chatham late Monday afternoon.

Both of the accused persons were later released with conditions and a future court date.

Man allegedly takes a baseball bat to a pair of doors

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 34-year-old Shrewsbury man accused of threatening a woman he knows while he was holding a baseball bat.

Police said that took place last week Thursday afternoon at a residence in Shrewsbury.

Officers said the man also allegedly used the bat to damage a couple of doors at the residence, causing about $3,500 in damage.

The accused turned himself in at police headquarters Monday morning in connection with the case and was charged with uttering threats and mischief. He was then taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
