CKPS presents educational drug safety initiative for kids

Grade 5 students in the municipality will learn about drug safety and awareness through an initiative led by Chatham-Kent Police Services.

Students will be given access to a copy of Drug Safety: Smart choices for LIFE, which is a handbook that outlines the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs.

"Across the country, law enforcement groups and community organizations are implementing youth education programs in an effort to prevent drug abuse before it starts," read a release by Constable Renee Cowell.

CKPS said the handbook is a resource that can be used to teach students about substance abuse and it also includes the phone numbers of local safety resources.
