Over $60K raised for Run for the Cure in CK

More residents in Chatham-Kent are standing up to breast cancer through the CIBC Run for the Cure fundraiser.

Organizers said 363 participants took part in Sunday's five kilometre and one kilometre run/walk in Chatham. The event raised $60,237, however, that total may go up as donations are still being collected.

This is the second year the CIBC Run for the Cure has taken place in Chatham-Kent. The number of participants and the amount raised are both up this year compared to the inaugural run in 2018, which saw approximately 258 participants and raised $41,410.

Some local groups were recognized during Sunday's event. Enbridge won the Corporate Spirit Award for the top fundraising corporate team, the Rockettes won the Friends and Family Award for top fundraising team, and Gord Dillon won the Determination Award for the top individual fundraiser.

On a national level, the Run for the Cure event generated approximately $17-million in donations this year, which is a slight increase compared to the $16-million raised last year. Money raised in the volunteer-led event will go towards breast cancer research, support programs, health education, and advocacy initiatives.
