No one bails out CK attempted murder suspect yet

A young man accused of attempted murder remains behind bars after no one showed up to make arrangements to bail him out.

Andrew Herdman appeared in Chatham court in person Friday afternoon for a bail hearing but went back to jail after his surety failed to show up. His bail hearing has been held over until Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in courtroom 103 via video.

Herdman is charged with attempted murder after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Chatham on September 21. Chatham-Kent police said the victim was struck on Harvey Street on Saturday around 4 a.m. but the driver failed to remain at the scene. Investigators later discovered the driver and the victim know each other and believe the hit and run was intentional. The victim was taken to a Windsor hospital where at last check he remained in serious but stable condition.

Chatham-Kent police are asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Detective Constable Cole Abbott at colea@chatham-kent.ca or 519-380-6024.
