UPDATE: Driver charged following Thursday morning crash

A 57-year-old driver has been charged with careless driving in connection with a crash that closed a section of the eastbound Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent for about four hours early Thursday morning.

OPP closed the highway between Queens Line and Highway 40/Communication Road (Interchange 90) after a transport truck rolled over near Bloomfield Road and officers were diverting traffic off the highway at Queens Line in Tilbury because of that crash, but the highway has since fully re-opened to traffic.

Chatham-Kent EMS said a paramedic unit was called to the scene, adding that one person was treated for minor injuries as a result of the crash.

While traffic was being detoured onto Queens Line, emergency crews were called to a crash on that road between Tilbury and Chatham.

A car hit a school bus that had 18 students on board. Two people were taken to hospital but neither of them was students.

Damage estimate was around $7,500, according to Chatham-Kent police. The driver of the vehicle was charged in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act.
