'Walk A Mile In Her Shoes' fundraiser returns to Chatham

The Chatham-Kent Women's Centre is changing up its signature event.

The 11th annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser will take place at the St. Clair College Thames Campus on Tuesday, October 8, starting at 11 a.m.

"We tried a few different times throughout the years, Saturdays and Sundays, and we thought we would change it up a little bit this year," said Karen Hunt, Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre. "Go for a different location, a different time, a different day, and see how we made out."

Maggie Kobrossy, President of the St. Clair College Thames Student Inc., said they're happy to be involved.

"It's important to educate the students as well, and let them know that any chance we have to volunteer, to make awareness, to promote information, we welcome that into the community."

Men from across Chatham-Kent will put on red high heels and walk to raise money for the Women's Centre, but Hunter added that the walk is also about raising awareness.

"We also went to make sure that people in the community are aware of what's happening in our community, and that violence against women is still continuing on in an enormous amount. Each year we have well over 1,000 women, children, and even men, who use our services. So it's very important that we connect with those who can benefit, and really learn something from what we do in the community."
