Police looking to identify break-in suspect

Chatham-Kent police are hoping you can help them to identify a suspect in connection with a break-in at the Portuguese Club in Chatham.

Officers said it happened early Sunday morning.

Man armed with steak knife in Tilbury

A 27-year-old Tilbury man is facing charges after allegedly facing off against a Chatham-Kent police officer while hold a large steak knife.

Police said an officer confronted the man while responding to a "disturbance" in Tilbury at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

As the officer arrived, the man was allegedly acting in an "aggressive manner" while holding the knife. At that point, the officer reportedly drew his firearm and ordered the man to drop the blade, which he did, but only after several demands.

The accused was taken into custody and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon.

He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Antique boat stolen from barn in Croton

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to track down an antique rowboat that was reported stolen from a barn on Cider Mill Line.

Officers said the boat, described as a restored 1930’s double nosed 15’ rowboat with a dark oak stain, was stolen sometime over the past three weeks.

The antique boat has an estimated value of approximately $10,000 to $15,000.

Engagement ring reported stolen

Police are investigating a break-in on Tecumseh Line in Chatham-Kent where someone took off with a diamond engagement ring.

The break-in reportedly took place sometime between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

There is no word on how much the ring is worth, but the damage caused as a result of the break-in is estimated at $3,000.

Crash leads to impaired driving charge

A 74-year-old Chatham Township man is charged with impaired driving after police responded to a crash on St. Clair Street in Chatham Thursday evening.

Police said they got the call at around 7 p.m., adding that through their investigation, officers believed that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for breath tests.

The man was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and then released with a future court date.
