Man charged for breaking bail conditions

A Chatham man wanted by Chatham-Kent police has been caught.

The 31-year-old man ran away from police during a medical emergency on Michener Road in Chatham on Sunday at around 5 a.m. but was arrested Monday afternoon after an arrest warrant was issued.

Officers were called to help paramedics who were helping a 25-year-old woman in medical distress. Police said she was experienced medical distress from "suspected illicit drug use" and was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment.

They both had a court-ordered curfew and were not to associate with each other. He was also under orders not to leave his house without his surety.

The female suspect was taken into police custody after she was discharged from the hospital.

The male suspect has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

Both their names have not been made public by police.

Man Charged with Theft

Police in Chatham has charged a man with theft.

Police responded to a theft in the downtown Chatham area on Sunday night and learned that a debit card from a stolen wallet had been used at a local convenience store to make multiple purchases.

The 23-year-old male suspect from Chatham was arrested Monday night and has been charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and failing to comply with his bail conditions.

His name has not been released by police.

Man Charged with Domestic Violence

A man from Chatham accused of breaking into a woman's home and beating her has been charged with several offences.

Police went to a domestic disturbance call at a home in Chatham early Tuesday morning and discovered a man entered the woman’s house without permission, broke a door and assaulted her.

The 34-year-old Chatham man was arrested a short distance away and has been charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling, mischief under $5,000, and assault.

Speeding Tickets

Chatham-Kent police have charged several drivers during a traffic enforcement blitz.

Police said eight drivers were stopped and charged with speeding through a 50km/h zone in Charing Cross Monday morning.

"The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind everyone that traffic enforcement initiatives will continue throughout our community as road safety is one of our pillars of commitment," said police.
