Fentanyl seized during drug bust

A search at an apartment unit in Chatham has resulted in the seizure of $5,000 worth of fentanyl and crack cocaine.

Chatham-Kent police said members of the Intelligence Unit, along with the Critical Incident Response Team, searched an apartment on Thames Street on Thursday night. In addition to the drugs, police said a taser, bear spray, and a "quantity" of cash were also seized.

Two people are facing charges in connection with the bust. A 30-year-old Chatham man is charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking, drug possession, failing to comply with his release conditions, disobeying his prohibition order, and being in possession of prohibited devices.

A 26-year-old Chatham woman is charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking, drug possession, failing to comply with her release conditions, and being in possession of prohibited devices.

Ridgetown teen arrested after allegedly stealing "No Parking" sign

A 19-year-old Ridgetown man is charged with theft after allegedly taking off with a street sign.

Police said they made the arrest after getting a call at around midnight Thursday about a man removing a "No Parking" sign from the area of Main Street East and Harold Street.

Officers were able to recover the sign and return it to its proper location. They're also reminding the public that removing street signs is not only a crime and a financial burden to the community, it "also poses a dangerous risk to road safety."

Gas theft in Ridgetown

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to identify this man in connection with a gas theft investigation. You can find a picture of him below.

Police said it took place at around 7 a.m. on September 3, 2019 at the Shell gas bar in Ridgetown.

Report of suspicious person leads to arrest

A report of a suspicious man has helped officers in a theft investigation.

Police said someone reported a suspicious man in the area of Fieldstone Place in Chatham around 1:45 a.m. on Friday.

It's alleged that a 35-year-old man from Windsor -- who was stopped on St. Clair Street -- was in possession of items that had been stolen from a vehicle in the same area. Police said he's now charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

Theft at a Chathan trailer

Police are trying to track down a TV and silver spoons reported stolen from a trailer in Chatham.

Officers said sometime over the past week, someone broke into a camping trailer, which was parked on St. Clair Street. A black 36” Samsung TV, a ceramic 110v heater, and a set of 16 pure silver European spoons were reported stolen.

Warrants executed

Officers were kept busy on Thursday with several arrests in the area while executing warrants.

A 33-year-old Dresden man has been charged with failing to comply after allegedly visiting a woman he had been ordered to stay away from. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 37-year-old Chatham woman has bee charged in connection with a theft in August at the Real Canadian Superstore. She has a future court date set for October 8.

A 23- year-old Chatham man has been charged for allegedly skipping out on his court date in August. He has another date in front of a judge set for October 16.

Coffee with a cop

Chatham-Kent police officers will be in Dresden next week for Coffee with a Cop. Residents are invited to enjoy a cup of coffee at Burns Restaurant and chat with local officers on September 24, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
