Allegedly impaired driver arrested after traffic stop

Chatham-Kent police have charged a 68-year-old man after officers got a tip about a possible impaired driver on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police said they got the tip at around 7 p.m. Wednesday, adding an officer on general patrol pulled over the vehicle on Glenwood Drive near McNaughton Avenue.

Investigators said the officer who pulled the vehicle over believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 68-year-old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Garden shed broken into

Chatham-Kent police are asking for the public's help to solve a break-in on Baldoon Road in Chatham.

Officers said someone entered an unlocked shed there sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. and took off with a Black and Decker electric leaf blower, a grey Makita skill saw, and various hand gardening tools.

The stolen goods have a combined estimated value of $300.

Speeders in a safety zone

Chatham-Kent police are urging the public to slow down in Community Safety Zones.

And four local drivers now have a written reminder to make sure they don't forget that.

Police said they charged four motorists with speeding in a Community Safety Zone on Wednesday while an officer with the traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Holy Family School on Murray Street in Wallaceburg -- the speed limit there is reduced to 40 kilometres per hour.

Charges laid after family dispute

A 33-year-old Chatham woman is in some trouble after allegedly breaching her probation by visiting a family member's home even though she was ordered to stay away.

Police said the woman was issued a probation order on August 26, 2019 that said she wasn't supposed to communicate with a specific family member or attend her home in Chatham.

Officers said they were called to that home Wednesday morning after the woman allegedly showed up and refused to leave.

She was arrested, charged, and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Pair of wanted men arrested

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a pair of Wallaceburg men who allegedly found themselves on the wrong side of the law recently.

Police said a 49-year-old man who was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions and failing to show up for court was arrested on Dufferin Avenue Wednesday morning.

In a separate case, a 37-year-old Wallaceburg man who was wanted by Peel Regional Police was arrested on Albert Street by an officer on general patrol. After he was arrested, the man was turned over to officers from Peel police for court purposes.
