Fake cheque results in charges

A 23-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly trying to cash a fraudulent cheque in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said the incident took place last month, adding the man took off when he was denied cash.

He was gone by the time officers arrived, but they were able to identify a suspect and found him in downtown Chatham Tuesday afternoon.

The accused was arrested, charged with fraud-related offences, and released with conditions and a future court date.

Theft from vehicle results in charges

Chatham-Kent police have made an arrest after a woman was allegedly seen stealing a pair of sunglasses and some loose change from a parked vehicle in Wallaceburg.

Police said the theft took place sometime Tuesday morning on Dufferin Avenue.

A 34-year-old Walpole Island woman was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property. She was then taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Police search for stolen vehicle

If you see a light copper 2015 Hyundai Elantra driving around with Ontario license plates CKFV 996, you should call police -- it was reported stolen.

Chatham-Kent police said it was taken sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. from a parking lot on Courthouse Lane.

Two arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a 43-year-old Chatham woman and a 25-year-old Walpole Island man who both spent some time on the CKPS wanted list.

Police said the woman was wanted for failing to attend court earlier this summer while the man was wanted in connection with a shoplifting complaint at the LCBO on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg earlier this year.

They were both arrested on Tuesday.

The woman was taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing while the man was charged and then released with conditions and a future court date.

Woman accused of assaulting her boyfriend

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is charged with assault after an argument with her boyfriend allegedly took a violent turn.

Police said they arrested her after they were called to a "domestic disturbance" at a residence in Chatham early Wednesday morning.

She was arrested, charged, and released with conditions and a future court date.
