Electronics, power tools targeted during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after someone forced their way into a garage on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg and took off with two TVs and some power tools.

Police said the break-in took place sometime between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday.

Whoever broke in stole a Sanyo 50" television, a Phillips 22" television with a DVD player, several inoperable Master Craft power tools, and a DeWalt cordless drill.

The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at $1,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Police find counterfeit cash during traffic stop

Two people are facing charges after a traffic stop in Chatham allegedly turned up five counterfeit $100 US bills.

Police said an officer on general patrol pulled the vehicle over on Lacroix Street and Emma Street in Chatham just after 12 a.m. Monday.

The officer who stopped the vehicle reportedly recognized the male passenger inside as someone who was bound by two curfew conditions -- he was also reportedly wanted on an outstanding warrant.

During the investigation, the officer also allegedly learned that the two people inside the vehicle were carrying some counterfeit cash.

A 33-year-old man and a 37-year-old Chatham woman were both arrested and charged. The man was taken into custody pending a bail hearing while the woman was released with conditions and a future court date.

Call about suspicious man leads to weapon charge

A 35-year-old man is in trouble with police after officers allegedly found him carrying around a black expandable baton.

Officers said they found the prohibited weapon while they were following up on a call about a suspicious man on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

The 35-year-old man was arrested, charged, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
