Terry Fox runs set for Sunday

An annual run to raise money for cancer research returns Sunday to communities across Canada.

The Terry Fox Run will be taking place in five communities in Chatham-Kent this year. The Dresden run is usually near the top when it comes to fundraising in Ontario.

"Last year we finished in the second spot," said Dresden run organizer Cindy Brewer. "So we were really, really happy because we actually raised our per capita dollar amount from the year previous. We went from $13.77 to $14.70 per capita, so we were quite excited about that."

Over 300 people took part in Dresden last year, and Brewer says all the money raised goes to cancer research.

"The foundation looks for research labs that are doing cutting-edge research and showing the best results. So it's not specific to one type of research, it's sometimes whoever is having the best breakthroughs at the time."

Runs are also taking place in Chatham, Tilbury, Wallaceburg, and Blenheim.

Dresden: Open start time from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Dresden Royal Canadian Legion on St. George St.

Blenheim: Run starts at 10 a.m. at Blenheim Memorial Park/Arena.

Chatham: Run starts at 10 a.m. at the Field House Patio on Courthouse Lane near the mini soccer fields and the Children's Treatment Centre.
