Chatham hospital's rooftop patio garden gets a fresh new look

The hospital in Chatham is celebrating the re-opening of its refreshed rooftop patio after some renovations earlier this summer.

A release from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance said the garden patio located on the Complex Continuing Care (CCC) unit at the Chatham site is now open for patients, families and visitors to enjoy and can be accessed through the Family Room in Zone E, Level 3.

"This patio is a cherished relaxation spot for patients and families while in the hospital visiting their loved ones. It is a beautiful, airy, quiet place to recharge and has been transformed into a spacious and comfortable area with plants and seating," said Patient Advisor Gaye Thompson. "It is heartwarming to see how the compassion of others can bring about a long-overdue change. We would like to send a huge thank you to all who helped make this welcoming space a reality."

CKHA President and CEO Lori Marshall added that the outdoor space is beneficial for both patients and visitors.

"With our philosophy of Patient and Family Centred Care in mind, the garden patio was designed to be wheelchair accessible and encompasses a flower bed installed at the appropriate height for patients who would like to do some gardening during their stay in hospital," said Marshall.

The garden patio was originally built thanks to a generous donation made possible by Wes D. and Pat Thompson in 2007.
