A State of Emergency issued nearly two weeks ago for Erie Shore Drive has officially ended.
According to a Facebook post on the Municipality of Chatham-Kent's page, the mayor ended the emergency declaration on Monday. The State of Emergency was issued on August 27 after a flooding event forced residents to leave their homes under a voluntary evacuation order.
The Facebook post read that municipal crews have since repaired and reinforced the dike. In addition, Bisnnet Line to Erieau Road has been reopened to local traffic.
Mayor Darrin Canniff had previously told Blackburn News that all levels of government are working to come up with a longterm solution to the flooding problem that has plagued the area for several years. It's unknown if the area will qualify to receive relief funding from the provincial government but Canniff said he hopes a provincial official will assess the affected area soon.
In the meantime, officials with the Lower Thames ValleyConservation Authority had previously said areas along the Lake Erie shoreline could see further flooding as an active fall storm season is expected.
