CKHA hires more doctors to help deliver care

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has added four new doctors to its staff.

The CKHA has announced that a hospitalist, an emergency physician, a radiologist, and a psychiatrist have recently been hired.

News of the four new hires comes roughly one week after the CKHA announced the addition of four other doctors.

Triple board-certified physician joins CKHA

Dr. Sandhya Misra will be working as a hospitalist at the CKHA.

She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Manipal Academy of Health Services in Manipal, India. Dr. Misra specializes in internal medicine, geriatrics, hospice and palliative medicine. She completed her fellowships at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center.

"I received a warm welcome upon joining CKHA and have enjoyed getting to know the community since my arrival. The close-knit atmosphere of the hospital, its modern facilities and friendly staff all contributed to my decision to join the organization," said Dr. Misra in a statement.

Recently, Dr. Misra worked in the division of palliative medicine, managing complex symptom management in patients with terminal diagnoses. According to the CKHA, her clinical interests include comprehensive disease management, complex symptom management, dementia and medication reconciliation.

Former CKHA Chief Resident officially joins hospital staff

An emergency physician, who recently completed his residency at the CKHA has decided to stay in the area.

Dr. Aaron Gross earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University in 2013. In June of this year, Gross completed his Family Medicine Residency training at the CKHA.

"I really enjoyed my training here and appreciated the welcoming and collegial culture in the Chatham Emergency Department," said Dr. Gross in a statement.

As chief resident -- from 2018 to 2019 -- Gross recruited other physicians to provide weekly teachings to residents and also taught junior residents and medical students himself.

Radiologist joins hospital staff

Dr. Ihssan Abdul-Kareem completed his early education in Iraq, earning a Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Science in Human Anatomy.

He has worked as a lecturer of human anatomy at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, before moving to Ottawa to complete a Diagnostic Radiology Residency.

"CKHA's community setting affords me the opportunity to utilize and maintain my skills in various aspects of radiology," said Dr. Abdul-Kareem. "I was confident it would be the right choice for me after hearing many positive things about the organization such as its modern and efficient Radiology Department and highly skilled staff."

Prior to joining the CKHA, Dr. Abdul-Kareem's latest position was as a clinical fellow in abdominal radiology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

CKHA hires a new psychiatrist

Dr. Umeadi earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Abia State University in Nigeria in 2000. He then completed other programs to earn a Master of Public Health Degree from The University of Liverpool, and a Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and Royal College of Surgeons.

Umeadi has been a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom since 2010 and has a Ph.D. in Public Health.

"The hospital's community setting, updated facilities and professional staff were strong influences in my choice to join CKHA," said Dr. Umeadi. "My family and I are also looking forward to settling into the community of Chatham-Kent."

According to the CKHA, Dr. Umeadi comes to Canada after spending the past 10 years as a consultant and staff psychiatrist at various health care centres in the United Kingdom.
