United Way aims for $1.5M to 'improve lives and build community'

The United Way of Chatham has set a lofty campaign goal in an effort to better the lives of those living in the municipality.

Advanced Realty Solutions Inc., the local campaign chair company for United Way, announced that it had set its annual campaign goal at $1.5 million during a kick-off event on Friday. All funds raised for the 2019 campaign will be invested in programs that "improve lives and build community” in Chatham-Kent.  The programs address issues such as hunger, social isolation, education equality, mental health and addiction, youth unemployment, homelessness, poverty and domestic violence.

“As realtors, we see a lot of our community; but when we started working with United Way these past few years as volunteers, we saw first-hand how they are taking action and confronting issues that they refer to as unignorable," said Bill Myers, owner and broker of record at Advanced Realty Solutions, in a media release.

Over $25,000 has already been donated to the campaign by several organizations like Enbridge, Teksavvy, UAW, CM Print and other independent donors.

United Way of Chatham was able to reach its campaign goal in 2018, and the funds raised were able to help more than 44,500 lives.
