Fire investigation puts South Buxton racing in the pits

The Southern Ontario Motor Speedway is officially closed for the season after a fire.

Management posted the notice on Facebook Wednesday night, adding, "We’d like to thank all of our supporters."

The fire broke out on A.D. Shadd Road in the early morning hours of August 28 and remains under investigation.

Officials from the race track are asking for help to rebuild "a bigger and better track" -- anyone interested can contact them through Facebook.

Management at the Southern Ontario Motor Speedway said they don't yet know when the track will re-open and they're still waiting for an assessment from their insurance company.

"We cannot do any work at the track until all issues have been taken care of," they added. "We will continue to update you as soon as we have more information available."

The post also stated that all drivers can pick up their pay on Saturday, September 7 after 12 p.m.

Chatham-Kent police continue to work with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office to determine the origin and the cause of the fire.
