UPDATE: Late night fire in Wallaceburg causes $120K in damage

No one is hurt after a fire ripped through a home on Elgin Street in Wallaceburg Monday night.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services said stations two and three, along with volunteer firefighters arrived at the home around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, only to find the structure fully engulfed in flames and hydro wires down across the street

Crews quickly brought the fire under control while Entegrus secured the downed power lines.

Fire officials said the family was alerted by working smoke alarms and were outside when firefighters arrived at the scene. This is the second house fire in four days where families were able to get out of their homes safely because of smoke alarms.

Damage to the home is estimated at $120,000, however, flames also melted the siding on a neighbouring home, causing another $5,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
