A beautiful and sunny weekend made for a perfect weekend at WAMBO.
Organizers of the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing estimate that 20,000 people came out over three days.
"It couldn't have went any better, to be honest," said Aaron Hall of the WAMBO Board of Directors. "It was perfect weather for Friday night for the car cruise. The refreshment tent was absolutely packed and busy all night long on Friday. Saturday was much of the same, we had the cars lined up downtown, boats along the Sydenham River."
Hall said they had about 150 cars on Saturday and dozens of boats.
"So that was a little bit of concern for us going into it because with the high water levels. And with the bridge out, it was a little bit doubtful of how successful that part of the show would be this year. But you looked around the shores of the Sydenham throughout the downtown core, there were tons of boats, tons of antique boats that were lined up. It's always a big draw for our event every year."
The highlight of the weekend for many was the cardboard boat races on Saturday.
"It's the fifth year for the cardboard boat races," said Hall. "The people come and line up the shore and line up on the walking bridge to watch the event. It's a lot of fun, and it's a good addition to WAMBO every year."
Hall says the event wouldn't be possible without all the volunteers.
"Kudos to everyone, to the board for putting all the time and effort into it, and all the managers for all the events, and all the volunteers. It's a true community event, and it couldn't have went any better this weekend."
